Diagnostic imaging

Advanced diagnostics using the latest technology

Being able to look within is an essential part of many diagnostics and the vets can make a more accurate diagnosis as well as assessing the risk of future problems. We have fully portable X-ray and ultrasound equipment which can be used at your yard.

Digital Radiography (X-Ray)

Radiography is one of the mainstays of bone and joint diagnostics in horses.

Having a state of the art portable digital X-ray system allows us to view and manipulate images almost instantly on a laptop.

For most cases we are able to examine the X-rays and report the findings on-site during the appointment, but often the images need to be studied carefully by one or more vets back at the practice. These digital images can also be forwarded to other surgeons prior to referral or for further opinions.

We are also able to supply images to your farrier and discuss the findings so they can optimise trimming or shoeing for your horse’s/pony’s individual needs.

Ultrasound is a safe non-invasive technique used for evaluating soft tissues, joints and bone surfaces.

As well as being an invaluable diagnostic tool in lameness diagnostics, it is useful for monitoring the progress of injuries prior to return to work, and for abdominal, thoracic and reproductive diagnostics. In addition regenerative treatments such as stem cell therapy and PRP, can be accurately injected into the site of injury under ultrasound guidance. Ultrasound can also be used as a guide for medication of deeper or less accessible joints such as the cervical facet joints (neck joints) or sacroiliac joint.
